If you are a returning reader, then welcome back! This will be a spoiler-free review of Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare. Let me know below if you would like to see a spoiler review of this book. With that said, let’s begin.
This book was fantastic! I loved absolutely every single minute of it! If you are a fan of The Mortal Instruments or any other Cassandra Clare series, then you should definitely read The Dark Artifices! This series is the sequel series to The Mortal Instruments series and follows the story of the Blackthorn family of the Los Angeles Institute as they face personal struggles as well as the ultimate evil threatening the shadowhunter society and its treaty with downworlders.
Tiny Spoiler (information from the first two books in The Dark Artifices, Lady Midnight and Lord of Shadows).
Queen of Air and Darkness obviously involves the aftermath of Livvy’s death as well as the situation now facing Emma and Julian as their one shot at exile vanishes before their eyes. We also see Ty facing his own ways of coping with Kit at his side and Dru doing what she can to get involved. Helen and Aline also move back home to help to take care of the family. We then see a love triangle occurring between Kieran, Mark, and Christina as they choose how to navigate each other’s feelings.
This book was filled with humor, action, and suspense. I love when you can’t figure out how a book will end. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. We also get to see basically every character from the shadowhunter novels in this final addition to the Dark Artifices series as well as getting to experience Jace and Alec’s points of view. Most of the humor does come from Jace and Emma. This is probably an obvious feat, but hilarious nonetheless.
