Mental Health

Hello and welcome to this week’s blog post! If you are new to my blog then be sure to check out my page and see what else you might be interested in. If you are a returning reader then welcome back! This week I wanted to discuss something a little different; mental health. Everyone knows that 2020 has been the actual worst, but does everyone know how it is affecting them? While I am not the usual type to evaluate my mental health state, I felt this was the time that I really needed it. Every now and then, I come across a moment when my mental health slips due to stress and anxiety, but usually only for a day. The events of the current year have caused me to reevaluate how I am really doing.

This week I watched Brittany Runs A Marathon and this movie really inspired me for this week’s blog post. I have been thinking about this discussion for a while, but the movie furthered my thoughts on the subject. This movie got me really evaluating my own mental health and how the world’s view of health and fitness has really affected me.

From pandemics to worldwide protests to job limbo, 2020 has been one big crapfest. Due to the pandemic my own internship ended, and I have been applying ever since to find my adult full-time job. Sitting at the house doing nothing but bingeing has definitely gotten old. With thoughts on saving money, finding a job, and generally planning for my future, I have been battling my own mental health on fitness and stress. I have used the time to stay active by exercising, and I have also went out a couple times with friends, but with funds running low, my options of keeping my mind active have become limited.

My one tip for staying in a healthy mindset would be to stay busy. If your mind is active, then you will be less likely to concentrate on the activities of 2020. Mental health is a tricky thing and it can be hard to navigate, but in my experience, I get really down when I a not doing something. I find that by focusing on other things, I can stay pretty upbeat. My biggest mental health issue comes with fitness and general health. After watching that movie, I found myself feeling better about my own fitness, but it is still an ongoing issue. Everyday we are being told how we should look, but the truth is that it doesn’t really matter. Why spend your life wishing you were a different person? Spend your life happy and content with who you are. I do promote health, but I don’t promote judgement.
