Welcome to Karmen’s Korner! If you are a new reader, be sure to follow my blog via email or WordPress account to get notifications on future posts. If you are a returning reader, then welcome back. This week I decided I would post about the reasons why I started my blog in the first place. I recently found the notebook where I wrote journal entries for a class in 2017. These journal entries are what sparked my interest in creating a blog. This class involved a trip to Europe, and my first post was about that very trip. It’s crazy to think that I have been keeping this blog for over three years. My reasons for starting my blog vary, but they are the reasons why I still write today.
One of the main reasons I wanted to create a blog was to express my love of tv, movies, and books. I have always been a media fiend and have been a book nerd since freshman year of high school. My obsession with Teen Wolf, Harry Potter, and The Mortal Instruments was my life. I loved the idea of having a platform in which to share my loves with people that also loved those things. Slowly my blog grew from my love of travel, organization, and planning; thus, becoming the lifestyle blog you see today.
I have always been the Monica Gellar among my friends and family. Everyone comes to me if they need help cleaning, organizing, or planning. A big example being the budget I keep for myself and my best friend. My YouTube suggested can speak to these obsessions with it being mostly book reviews, cast funny moments from my favorite shows and movies, and videos of people organizing their closets and cleaning their kitchens. My love for planning has become a bit of a cosmic joke this year since no one can plan for anything. My lack of unemployment due to the pandemic has definitely been a big weight on my savings plans.
Getting back to the original topic, creativity played a big part in my creation of my blog as well. This blog has become a real place to express myself and connect to people feeling the same. Blog posts on topics such as mental health and self-care have been big reliefs off of my mind. Speaking of my love of media, shows like The Bold Type (Jane Sloan) and Jane the Virgin (Jane Villanueva) have really inspired me along my blogging journey. Through important fictional character influences, I have gained more courage in calling myself a blogger and writer.
When I first started my blog, I never brought it up in conversation. When I did, I felt silly, like a child with an unrealistic dream. When I watched the above-mentioned shows, everything changed. I started discussing it with my closest friends, who always supported me and my goals. Sure, there were some that would shrug it off at mention and would never really care when I wanted to talk about it, but every time that started to get me down, I turned to my support system. They always boost me up; this includes various photoshoots, blog title editing, and even Disney World photo opportunities. My blog has become an output of sorts, an electronic diary for all to see. But every disappointment and doubt has been worth it to get to do what I love.
