My October Books Wrap-Up

Welcome to Karmen’s Korner! If you are a new reader, be sure to follow my blog to get notifications on future posts.  If you are a returning reader, then welcome back. This week, I am providing a bonus post for the last day of October, Halloween, to discuss the books I read this month. All three of these books were amazing and I loved getting to read some spooky stories for spooky season!

Lore: Monstrous Creatures

The first book I read was Lore: Monstrous Creatures by Aaron Mahnke. This book was so good and definitely set the mood for the rest of the month with stories on vampires, werewolves, gremlins, and ghosts. I actually had to step away from it for a bit every so often to regain my bearings. I was really okay until the story about the mysterious plane with everyone inside upon arrival and then there was the doll possessions. Yeah, I don’t mess with that stuff. If you are into the supernatural like I am, I highly suggest picking up this book for a spooky read!

Darkness on The Edge of Town

The second book I read was Darkness on The Edge of Town by Adam Christopher. This one was particularly interesting because it is one of the three Stranger Things novels you can read. This one is all about Hopper and the time he spent in New York City as a detective before he moved back to Hawkins. This one was very interesting to see more background on this beloved character. It also makes you wonder if any of these characters will be showing up in future seasons of Stranger Things.

Shadow and Bone

The third book I read this month was Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo.  This one was easily my favorite book of October. I read it in two days because I simply couldn’t put it down. The only reason it took me two days was because I had to put it down to go to work. Shadow and Bone is about this girl named Alina who discovers she has magical abilities and is quickly whisked away from her best friend to a palace where she has to train with others like her.

This book definitely gave me Red Queen vibes for sure. If you liked those books, then read this! I just loved the storyline so much and the characters were great, and the plot honestly took on a different road than I thought it would, so it was by no means predictable.
