How to Prepare for The New Year

Welcome to Karmen’s Korner! If you are a new reader, be sure to follow my blog to get notifications on future posts.  If you are a returning reader, then welcome back. This week, I am going to discuss a topic that is heavy on all of our minds: 2021. The end of 2020 should be then end of the terror, right? It has become an unspoken topic that all of us are truly hoping 2021 is a fresh start. A reset buttons. This year’s New Year’s Eve will be a celebration like no other. So, what do you need to do to prepare for 2021?

Re-evaluate

Re-evaluate and reflect on your 2020. Think about the positives that happened to you this year instead of the negatives. Take a step back and choose to reflect on what you are currently grateful for. Also, re-evaluate on how this year has affected you and made you stronger. 2020 has shaped all of us into new forms and we should choose to embrace that and get to know the new us. Take some time to reflect on yourself and get to know the new you.

Organize

Organization is key in the shift to 2021. I am choosing to accomplish this task by using a bullet journal and my own makeshift GYST journal. Either of these devices or even just a simple planner can help you get organized; especially the GYST journal. My GYST journal is where I keep all of my shows I want to watch, my reading log, my resolutions, and other random pages that help me stay organized. Not only is planning a big part of organizing, but also just doing something as simple as tidying up can help with your shift into 2021. It’s New Year’s Eve, so start out the new year with a fresh set of sheets, laundry all put away, surfaces dusted, and floors vacuumed. Performing these simple tasks will help to start off 2021 fresh.

Set Goals

This one is probably an obvious one but set goals for the new year and actually stick to them. You can accomplish this by creating SMART goals. Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound goals will be goals you can stick with. By making SMART goals you have to make sure they are specific to your wants. For instance, me saying I would like to be healthier is not a SMART goal. My goal is to lose 20 pounds within the first six months of 2021. It is specific, I can track my progress, it is reasonably attainable, it will benefit me directly, and it has a timeframe. Setting goals for 2021 should be goals we can stick with and that will help us to get out of the pit of despair 2020 has brought.

  1. The hardest thing for me is the total feeling of loss of control that came with 2020! So I’m focusing on taking care of myself in 2021. Happy New Year 💜 xx
