An Intense Start To 2021

Welcome to Karmen’s Korner! If you are a new reader, be sure to follow my blog to get notifications on future posts.  If you are a returning reader, then welcome back. This week, I am letting you into my life for a moment to discuss the events of January. I, like many others, craved for 2021. I was ready to see 2020 in my rearview mirror! Well, 2020 decided to give me one last kick in the rear before saying goodbye. Before we get to that, if you would like to be a part of my newsletters, be sure to follow me and include an email. These newsletters will be sent out every week with fun tidbits crafted by yours truly. Now, let’s get back to my rocky start to 2021.

COVID

2020’s final gift to me was to give me COVID. I woke up New Year’s Day with a sore throat and a fever. We made an appointment for me and my parents to get tested and sure enough, we were all positive. The next two weeks were interesting. My symptoms were all over the place and I experienced every known symptom at some point. One day I would feel great and the next, I couldn’t get out of bed. So, what did I do during all this spare time?

Books, Books, and More Books

I read. I wrapped up January with 8 books knocked off of my reading list. During the actual quarantine process, I read 7 of those. Once I went back to work, 1 book is all I could muster. I read Clanlands by Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish, Swimming Lessons by Lili Reinhart, Cursed by Frank Miller and Thomas Wheeler, DKMH by Dacre Montgomery, I Would Leave Me If I Could by Halsey, Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo, The 12 Week Year by Brian P Moran and Michael Lennington, and Snobs by Julian Fellowes. I loved these books! It was nice to sit around and do nothing but read. Especially since I am now in tax season as an employee at a tax firm and I don’t see me getting much time to read in the coming couple of months.

New Shows

I have also started and finished some great new shows! I watched The Queen’s Gambit, Bridgerton, and Emily In Paris. I have also recently started watching Sex and The City. Being a huge Downton Abbey fanatic, I obviously loved Bridgerton. The Queen’s Gambit was so thrilling, and Emily In Paris definitely put Paris up high on the travel bucket list! If you haven’t seen these shows yet, I highly recommend you hop on Netflix right now and binge, binge, binge.

Preparing for Tax Season

As I mentioned earlier, I am an employee of a local tax firm and tax season is officially upon us. I work the front desk, so things will definitely be getting quite crazy! I also work the front desk and we keep our lobby door locked and request that clients call to come in so the phones are constantly ringing and my daily step goal of 8,000 is getting so much easier to reach. Just pray for me and my sanity.

Running Challenge

Finally, my start to 2021 resolutions may have had a brief hiccup, but I am back on track and am currently on week 4 of my running challenge. I am doing the couch to 5k challenge and it has definitely been a struggle, but I am powering through. I am up to running intervals of 3, 5, 3, and another 5; it’s getting “fun.” I also started two other challenges this week: push-ups and squats. All of my challenges should conclude on March  2nd and then I plan to make use of the new Fabletics Fit app since I have a VIP membership.

  1. I completely support your running challenge. I hope to run at least 2 times a week… 2-3 miles a run. I’ve been maintaining my weight really well over winter so I “should” do well!
