Shadow & Bone hits Netflix on my birthday and I could not be more excited to see this series brought to the screen; however, based off of the new trailer, I am a little nervous. I just recently finished this series along with Six of Crows and I am thrilled to see the actors who will be portraying these enticing characters (Ben Barnes above all others). While this seems like it will be a close portrayal, there does seem to be some things amiss with both stories
SHADOW & BONE
With this specific adaptation, the transition seems to be smooth so far. I am missing the glimpse at the amplifier collar, but I am excited to see how they handle that. Ben Barnes looks exceptional as The Darkling, and I already know I am going to be drug back through the internal battle I had with myself while I read the series. This being whether it would be worth it to say screw it and just be the man’s queen.
The fold definitely looks incredibly close to how I pictured it, I just hope we get to see more of some characters then were shown. We only get brief glimpses at Genya and I am hoping she is more prevalent since she was such a big part of the story. I also hope they try to redeem Mal a little in the show, I did not love him in the books, but they are already winning me over a bit after the new trailer.
SIX OF CROWS
Okay, I am right off the Six of Crows train as I finished the set a total of two days ago. I loved Six of Crows! This story was incredible and I loved that the main characters are all thieves and con artists. Kaz Brekker is wonderful and who wouldn’t love a character with the nickname “Wraith.” I can’t wait to see this story brought to the screen. I do however have a bone to pick. In the books, the events of Shadow & Bone took place way before Six of Crows, but based on the trailer, they seem to be lining up the timelines.
It also seems like the task for the Crows is to capture Alina, instead of infiltrating the Ice Court. I am interested to see how it plays out. I wish they were sticking with the original story, but I can see why they would line them up since the events of Shadow & Bone and mentioned in Six of Crows. This way nothing gets spoiled. All I know is that short scene where it shows them walking in the alley with the fog and Kaz has his cane and hat…. *chef’s kiss*
All in all, I am very excited to see the story play out, and I can’t wait to celebrate my birthday with the Grishaverse. My cousin (book reading partner in crime) and I are already planning on watching it at my house since I am the one with the big screen, projector, and theater seating. There will be popcorn and lots of goo goo eyes at Ben Barnes. Can you tell I am a fan? I mean he is Prince Caspian!
